Brandywine reclaims MARFU Crown! :
Early offensive surge proves enough as Brandywine lays claim to the MARFU crown.
Longtime Division 2 rivals Doylestown and Brandywine found themselves pitted against each other once again on Sunday with the MARFU crown at stake.
Brandywine dominated the first half of play, easily scoring 20 points and giving themselves what seemed an insurmountable lead going into halftime. Doylestown seemed undaunted by the score knowing that in the second half they would have control of the great equalizer that would doom clubs all weekend, the downhill side of the sloped pitch Wilmington RFC calls home.
Slowly, Doylestown chipped away at the BRFC lead. They would score early in the second half to cut the score to 20-7 and again a few minutes later to make it 20-12. With only minutes remaining, a Brandywine mistake allowed Doylestown to cut the score to 20-19. Time eventually ran out on Doylestown as Brandywine won its final scrum and strategically booted the ball out of bounds signaling the final whistle and the end of the match.
The victory gives Brandywine its second title in three seasons and three titles in the past nine seasons. Brandywine will now advance to the National Sweet 16’s as a number four seed. The tournament begins on May 22, 2010 in Columbia, SC.
