Strong defense and hard tackling keep Media from finding the try zone.
Brandywine visited Media Saturday in the latest installment of this bitter rivalry. As is the case in all Media-Brandywine games, this was a hard hitting, trash talking, physical match up saw neither team gain an early advantage.
Media had the first crack at points on a Brandywine penalty. However the kicker shanked the kick right giving Brandywine a 22 meter drop. Brain Dunbar scored the first points of the match driving off of a Brandywine line out, rolling over Media players on the way to the try zone.
Being pinned in their end for almost 10 minutes, Brandywine was able to turn away every Media advance with hard hitting and strong tackling. Media would get as close as the 5 meter line but would be rucked and knocked backwards by every Brandywine tackler. After a Brandywine steal, John Grace notched a well placed kick to touch giving BRFC breathing room and a shot at the Media try zone. With minutes remaining before the halftime whistle Louis Tulio scored from the back line on a hard fought run to give BRFC the 10-0 advantage and the momentum.
The second half opened much the same as the first with neither team making a clear statement. First year Brandywine second row Jethro Monetti earned his first try for widening the scoring gap to 15-0. Jack Foley ran down and stole an up and under kick from a Media back and while in mid-air, popped the ball to an oncoming Paul Black who went unscathed into the try zone. Paul’s score sealed the victory for Brandywine giving the club its third win in a row over Division 1 Media.
Brandywine walked away with another win Saturday in the B game. Scoring went back and forth but Brandywine finally excelled 19-12. Congratulations to the Brandywine B side as they earned their second straight win.
